Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.

Hrmmm, ok.

It's been a bit since I've posted, but things are calming down a teency bit. My senior show launches tomorrow night and I'm pleased with that. I'll be glad when it's over though. I've already spent about $1,000 on it so far and I'm not thrilled about that.

I also have a new plan for the summer before I ship off in the fall. Taking a bit of inspiration from a friend, I am going to build a raft and navigate the entire Mississippi. Ryan and Tony, I could use good helmsmen. You are free to come.

"Sam Duckworth is on a one-man mission and this, his debut EP, highlights his talent to produce music that is not just heart warming but that is also on the verge of being life affirming! The ex-member of Southend lads Silverskin has a simple musical angle in principal: armed with an acoustic guitar and laptop, he takes acoustic tracks and places some beats over the top. Sounds simple, but when it's performed like this you can't help but be amazed." - Drowned in Sound

Looks like things might straighten out after nearly 2 years. Let's see if I can be the good guy for once in my life.

Biloxi, MS
Sunday, March 26, 2006, 08:30 PM
Well, I leave tomorrow on an 18 hour drive to Biloxi, MS. My old roommate and I are traveling down there to do a portrait series on the people of coastal Mississippi and will be gone for the next 5 days. I recently got a new phone and hacked it to hook up to my laptop to give me wireless internet, so I'll be in touch down there.

Check out my flickr stream as I will likely be posting some of the pictures of our trip as we're down there. As long as I can get signal, that is...

I just got off work and have a lot to do to get ready, so I'll catch you guys later in MS.

Here's one for the road:

Morningwood
Monday, March 20, 2006, 05:03 PM

Hmm, yeah...

This one has been on an oft listened to playlist of mine for the past few and I think I digg it for the screaming guy. Wish I could do that. Or maybe it's because the next song is 99 Luft Balloons by Nena. w00t GTA3! (I'm bringing back w00t by the way.)

Enough shock and awe, it's time for the post:

"Riff-shredding, ass-shaking, louder-than-life Morningwood is a glorious hodgepodge of personalities, backgrounds and influences -- much like their NYC hometown -- but that's where the pigeonholing ends.

"There's an attitude, this balls-to-the-wall feeling, you don't hear so much in New York these days," says Morningwood frontwoman Chantal Claret. "At one time there was a grittiness here with the local bands, a passion and energy, but now it seems pretty safe."

For a band self-described as "a monster truck having sex with a Bond girl," Morningwood take their fun very seriously, always putting an extra ounce (gallon?) of sweat into every note, every show. Nothing is ever dashed off. Nothing is taken for granted. And everything is possible..." - Artist Page

Update Time (Yea)
Sunday, March 12, 2006, 03:20 PM
It's getting harder to update this bad mother. I'm still getting new stuff to listen to (downloading the entire SXSW 2006 catalogue as we speak) so I'm sure I won't run out of anything soon. Just keep it bookmarked.

On a side note: I've been working on a few projects for various reasons, but my latest is Krappy Kamera photography. I developed my first roll taken with my new camera on Friday and I spent a little time this weekend doing dust removal. Dust removal on a 120 negative scanned in at 4800 DPI is time consuming, that's all I have to say.

You can hit up my photostream on Flickr to see some of my pics. Let me know what you think.

Eh, I need to get back down to school to get some editing done. I have an update though.

Decoder Ring
Wednesday, March 1, 2006, 05:39 PM

"Since Decoder Ring won the Australian Film Institute award for best original music score and an IF award for best soundtrack for the 2004 movie Somersault, they have been confronted with the challenge of "Where do we go from here?"

The answer, as their third album demonstrates, is to push beyond their already adventurous boundaries while providing more of the gorgeous same.

Australia has no great tradition of experimental electronic music so Decoder ring's imaginative live light shows, explorations in electronics and dance rhythms, adventures in improvisation (shades of Tangerine Dream in the 1970s) and their ability to create extraordinarily beautiful soundscapes (shades of Brian Eno) have had to find new audiences prepared to be challenged and amazed. At times they sit on the pulsating edge of electro dance (Escape Pod and the mesmerising 451), at other times they seem like an '80s pop band (Out Of Range), early Pink Floyd (Traffic) and a sublime cross between Eno and Neu (Remainie)." - Artist Page

They'll be at SXSW. I wish I was.

I invented that Electroclick term methinks. Not glitchy enough to be glitch, not pop enough to be pop, not electro enough to be electro.
